AutoTherm is built by Ben Zandi, Ph.D., former VP of Software Development for Thermal Solutions at Altair Engineering, who has spent decades creating thermal and CFD software for industry. It brings that experience to every engineer and student.
Mechanical engineer and thermofluids specialist, with a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a dissertation on coupled electrical, thermal and CFD analysis for electronics. Teaching the fundamentals as an adjunct professor at Northern Illinois University showed him firsthand how much of students' time goes to lookups and arithmetic instead of engineering.
Develops AutoTherm and other automated engineering tools through ETR, LLC.
Led thermal solutions software at Altair, now part of Siemens, after Altair acquired his company's technology.
Continues hands-on thermal engineering work for aerospace electronics.
Built and led an engineering software and consulting firm serving automotive, aerospace and defense clients, including General Electric, Boeing and Collins Aerospace, with a focus on CFD, heat transfer and electronics thermal management. TES also built turnkey, industry-specific thermofluid toolsets for its clients.
Authored a family of thermal and CFD analysis packages still in use at leading engineering companies today:
In 2017, Altair Engineering acquired TES International's technology.
Directed thermal design and reliability assessment for aircraft electronics, including HALT, HASS and root-cause analysis of in-flight and qualification issues.
Altair acquired TES International's technology and brought Ben on as Vice President of Software Development for Thermal Solutions. He led automation efforts that cut modeling time from days to hours across the product line. Altair is now part of Siemens.
Building AutoTherm: the turnkey approach behind those industry toolsets, brought to the individual engineer and the student, alongside continued consulting for Collins Aerospace.
Research and development that funded a full family of engineering software, used by leading companies and ultimately acquired by Altair. Ben has also presented at the SAE World Congress and the Advances in Thermal Management Seminar.
As principal investigator, multiple Phase I, Phase II and Enhancement-Phase awards funded continued software development, along with a patent on a concurrent thermal radiation method.
ElectroFlo, ThermoFlo, TESuite and Wirenet, still in use at leading engineering companies today.
In 2017, Altair Engineering acquired TES International's technology. Altair is now part of Siemens.
AutoTherm is a product of ETR, LLC. It applies the same discipline that shaped ElectroFlo, ThermoFlo and TESuite, built this time for the individual engineer instead of an enterprise license.
Engineering Tools and Resources builds fully automated analysis tools that take tedious, error-prone calculations, unit conversions and table lookups off engineers' plates, so they can focus on design and optimization.
